Updated October 2026. Four developments affect a hospice software decision this fall:

  • MatrixCare changed owners. Frazier Healthcare Partners completed its purchase of MatrixCare from ResMed in September 2026 and named Jonathan Lujan CEO. MatrixCare customers and prospects should ask how the roadmap and support model change under the new owner.
  • The FY2027 hospice final rule is out. CMS finalized a 2.3% payment update for FY2027 (about $755 million), effective October 1, 2026, and set the hospice aggregate cap at $36,174.75. The rule also makes the election statement addendum mandatory for every patient electing hospice, not only on request, and introduces a Service and Spending Variation Index (SSVI) built from claims measures. Confirm your EMR handles the addendum workflow and your team understands how SSVI scores utilization.
  • HOPE is in its first year. HOPE replaced the Hospice Item Set on October 1, 2025. Hospices submit HOPE records within 30 days of the HOPE admission, each HOPE Update Visit, and discharge, so EMR support for HUV timing and submission tracking is now a baseline requirement rather than a roadmap item.
  • EMR vendors keep adding family and documentation features. Axxess partnered with Eazewell in September 2026 to offer hospice clients a family support service for post-loss paperwork, and HCHB's embedded Curate: Scribe (announced March 2026) brings AI drafting inside its EHR.
